Joe Chinakwe who was arrested by Police in Ogun state for naming his dog ‘Buhari’ is to appear in court in Abeokuta on Monday.

This was confirmed by the State acting  Police Public Relations  Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi who said that Chinakwe’s action could lead to ethnic crisis and public unrest if left to go on the Tribune reports.

Chinakwe named his dog Buhari which his neighbour who is of Northern origin found offensive as he claimed that was his father’s name.

The man was arrested by Police after he was reported by his neighbour and taken into custody.

He claimed in an interview with the Vanguard that he named the dog Buhari after Nigeria’s President because he felt the dog was strong and deserved the name because according to Chinakwe Buhari is also strong.

He also claims that his Northern neighbour got the dog killed and that this was something he’d find difficult to forgive.

As to his arrest and the reason for it, the acting PPRO explained that it was a dangerous move (naming the dog Buhari) as it could bring about civil unrest.

“The man is here with us, he is at the Criminal Investigation Department. The charge will be prepared here and he will be arraigned at Sango Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

“He is going to court on Monday because what he did was highly provocative. It can cause ethnic and religious crisis.

“We have to be proactive, we cannot fold our arms and allow the state to be plunged into crisis.”
