Niger gives education top priority — SSG

The Secretary to the State Government of Niger (SSG), Alhaji Ibrahim Ladan, says the present administration in the state is committed to the development of education for the overall development of the state.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Ladan was quoted as saying that Gov. Abubakar Sani Bello of the state was aware of the importance of education and he had given the sector a top priority.

The statement said that the SSG spoke at the children’s vacation programme organised by the Niger State Library Board in Minna.

He expressed delight in the programme and observed that the programme would lay a solid foundation for the children’s development and build their physical, mental and psychological growth.

Apart from education, Ladan said the present administration had also focused attention on agriculture and provision of infrastructures, among others.

He thanked the organisers of the programme and advised them to include entrepreneur skills in the programme.

He also urged the students and the pupils to take advantage of the programme and be dedicated to their studies.

Earlier, in her opening address the Executive Director, Niger State Library Board, Hajiya Talatu Mohammed said “the programme is targeted at the children between the ages of six and 15 years considering the fact that, at this stage ‎,they possess high retentive memory.’’

She called on government to restructure the state library to a global standard to attract patronage in view of the benefiting impact of libraries to the teeming populace.

The highlights of the occasion included prize awards to deserving children.(NAN)
