Two Nigerian doctors are currently facing the wrath of the law after allegedly forgetting a towel inside a patient following the completion of a surgical operation.
The doctors, Dr Taiwo Shogunle, 53 and Dr. Adeleke Olusegun, 43 both staffs of the St. Raphael Divine Mercy Specialist Hospital at Ijede, Ikorodu, Lagos State were arraigned before the Magistrates’ Court for allegedly causing the death of their patient, Omojola Bamgboye.
The doctors who were arraigned before the Igbosere Magistrates’ Court siting in Lagos on a one count charge of felony, to wit, murder were arrested by men of the Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos.
During the case proceedings on Monday, the Police prosecutor, Supol Eshiet Eshiet told the court that the crime was committed between 18 and 19 December, 2015 at the St. Raphael Divine Mercy Specialist Hospital, Ijede, Ikorodu, Lagos.
Eshiet referring to the case noted before the Magistrate that the crime is punishable under section 222(2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused persons however denied the allegation leveled against them and were subsequently granted bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties each in like sum by the presiding Magistrate.
The case was thereafter adjourned till 9 September, 2016 for mention.
