Three Nigerians and one Indonesian man have been executed by firing squad in Indonesia for drug trafficking.
This execution is the first in the country in over a year and has come despite heavy pressure and criticism from the watching world and their citizens.
The Nigerians; Humphrey Jefferson Ejike Eleweke, Seck Osmane and Michael Titus Igweh were killed around 00:45 Indonesian time along with the Indonesian Freddy Budiman.
There were 14 death row inmates slated for execution six of which are Nigerians. With three gone, the other three remain. Nothing is known as to the date of the rest of the executions.
Indonesia’s Deputy Attorney General Noor Rachmad said on the matter “This is not a fun job. For us, this is really a sad job because it involves people’s lives,” he said. “This was done not in order to take lives but to stop evil intentions, and the evil act of drug trafficking.”
