Jigawa Govt. suspends training of teachers

2 Min Read

The Jigawa Government on Thursday directed the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to suspend further in-training for teachers, as those sponsored for training over five years ago were yet to resume.

Alhaji Bala Ibrahim, the Commissioner for Information, Youth and Sports, disclosed this on Thursday in Dutse when he briefed journalists after the Executive Council Meeting.

Ibrahim explained that over 5,000 out of the 22,000 primary and junior secondary school teachers in Jigawa that were trained at various institutions over five years had not reported at their duty posts.

The commissioner said that the executive council had set up a committee to investigate those on training with a view to finding a way forward.

Alhaji Inuwa Tahir, state Head of Service, said it was sad that a state that required the services of 4,500 teachers, to have over 5,000 teachers in training, that were yet to resumed after five years.

“From our records some of them have been away for the training for more than 10 years now.

“In fact, we think that good number of them had finished and stayed back at homes without resuming, but still collecting their salaries,’’ he said.

Tahir said that in the civil service, no training ought to last more than five years. (NAN)
