Mrs Sally Mbanefo, the Director General, Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC), has said that tourism, if properly harnessed, could create employment and reduce the level of crime in the country.
Mbanefo in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Monday, described tourism as a viable means to unify Nigerians, create jobs and reduce criminality.
The NTDC DG lauded the anti-corruption crusade of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
“The crusade will reduce crime in the land and encourage foreign investments, boost the nation’s economy and create wealth for Nigerians,” she he said.
Mbanefo said that NTDC was working with stakeholders including traditional rulers to harness and promote tourism.
“NTDC cannot work alone, so we are working with people at the grassroots and the custodians of the tourist attractions to develop and showcase the hidden treasures we have,” she said.
Mbanefo therefore called on Nigerians, both young and old, to make sure that the cherished black culture, tradition, heritage and languages in Nigeria are preserved.
