Chaos broke out at the University of Lagos this morning as Creative Arts students hit the streets of the campus to protest against sexual harassment and other allegations of misconduct against the university lecturers and other officials.
It is no news that male lecturers in Nigeria often go beyond the scope of their fiduciary relationship of knowledge impartation with the students, as scandals have broken out in private and public schools across the country. A recent incident involving a lecturer of Delta State University stripped naked after a female student reported the matter to male friends in her neighborhood.
According to popular LIB, “The students stormed the Arts block this morning with placards to register their grievance and later moved their protest to the Social Science department. Female students of the department claim their lecturers are making life difficult for them by demanding sexual favours before they can pass their courses.”
Male students who obviously cannot offer sexual favours tot he lectureres are made to part with exorbitant sums of money before they are allowed to pass.
Unilag is yet to respond to the allegations.
