The police in Anambra have assured the people of the state of a hitch-free Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
The Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, Mr Ali Okechukwu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Onitsha on Tuesday that the command had positioned its officers around black spots in the state.
“The command is doing everything humanly possible to ensure that the peace already existing in the state is not breached by anyone during and after the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
“We have put strong security measures on ground in all the three areas of the command in Onitsha, Awka and Nnewi to ensure that residents, especially the Muslims, enjoy their holiday,” Okechukwu said.
He called on the residents to volunteer information wherever there was a breakdown of law and order using the hotlines, direct contact with the police or text messages.
He said that the command had restored peace at Nanka in Orumba North Local Government Area following the arrest of some hoodlums who had been terrorising the area.
He said that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Hosea Karma, was poised to deal with violators of the law during and after the celebration. (NAN)
