The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III has called on Nigerians to resolve issues that cause disaffection among them instead of carrying weapons.
Abubakar told newsmen in Sokoto on Sunday that “Nigeria is a beautiful country and its people love one another.
“Life lost never comes back. Let us sit together, discuss our problems and see how to overcome them.’’
The sultan spoke against using violence to resolve problems rather than employing dialogue, insisting that Nigerian elites should be blamed for the country’s challenges.
“The elites are the major problems of this country. They should desist from setting innocent Nigerians against one another.
The monarch also wondered why some people always chose to blame the Fulani for every attack in their communities.
“If the criminals are doing bad things, they are criminals and they can be found anywhere, in any religion and tribes.
“Therefore don’t add religious or tribal toga to any act of terrorism. The Fulani are only after their cattle; not any government, its policies and programmes,’’ he said.
Abubakar said there were plans to organise a symposium and a stakeholders’ meeting on religious harmony.(NAN)
