The embattled national chairman of the PDP who has been embroiled in an ugly battle for supremacy in the party has gotten some respite from the courts.
In a ruling, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to turn down any list of candidates for the governorship elections in Edo and Ondo from any other leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) except from the Ali Modu Sheriff-led National Working Committee (NWC).
The court didn’t stop there. Justice Okon Abang who presided over affairs also granted an order of interlocutory injunction restraining INEC, the PDP and their agents from dealing with or according any facility required by law (regarding the gubernatorial elections to be conducted by INEC in Edo and Ondo states) to any other persons or group other than the Sheriff, Prof. Wale Oladipo and Fatai Adeyanju -led NWC of the party.
This means that any candidate that emerges from Edo and Ondo state for PDP must be those recognised by Ali Modu Sheriff.
