Ekweremadu raises alarm over Forgery trial, writes US Congress, EU Parliament, Others

2 Min Read

The embattled deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu has raised alarm over his current predicament. The Deputy President and Senate President Saraki are facing charges bordering on forgery of the Senate’s standing rules which both individuals (Saraki and Ekweremadu) have denied being any part of.

In a bid to alert the international community of his and Saraki’s plight, Ekweremadu wrote the United Nations, European Union, United States’ Congress, European Union Parliament, Governments of United States, United Kingdom and other foreign missions.

Ekweremadu has accused his persecutors of trying to “silence him as the leader and highest ranking member of the opposition in the country, all in the name of prosecuting an alleged forgery case.”

The Nation reports that their correspondent saw a copy of the letter titled “Re: Trumped up charges against the presiding officers of the 8th Senate: Nigerian Democracy is in Grave Danger,”

Ekweremadu in the letter stated that he wanted the international community “after perusing the facts before them, decide whether or not the trial was justified, or one purely borne out of political vendetta.”

Along with the letter, Ekweremadu also attached copies of the court summons and other relevant documents relating to the matter to his letter.
