Court Rules On Saraki-Ekweremadu Forgery Case

1 Min Read

Yusuf Haliru, justice of the federal capital territory (FCT) high court, has granted Senate President Bukola Saraki bail.

He also granted bail to Ike Ekweremadu, deputy senate president, and two other accused persons — Salisu Maikasuwa, former clerk of the national assembly, and Benedict Efeturi, deputy clerk of the legislature.

They were granted bail after their arraignment but Justice Haliru Yusuf ruled that they should be detained at the Kuje Maximum Prison in Abuja pending when they meet their bail conditions.

The accused are expected to provide two sureties each with evidence of properties in Wuse, Asokoro, Maitama and Garki areas of Abuja.

The four accused persons immediately filed bail applications separately to prevent a possible detention after the hearing.

Mr. Saraki, Mr. Ekweremadu, a former Clerk of the National Assembly, Salisu Maikasuwa, and his deputy, Benedict Efeturi, are being arraigned for allegedly forging the Senate’s Standing Rule used in electing leaders and inaugurating the upper legislative chamber on June 9, 2015.
