Ministry organises National Summit on Affordable Housing

2 Min Read

In a bid to provide affordable housing for Nigerian, the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing is set to convene the first National Summit on Affordable Housing.

A statement signed on Wednesday in Abuja by Mrs Eno Olotu, Assistant Director of Information of the ministry, stated that the summit would hold from June 27 to June 28, 2016.

It said that the summit is being organised in collaboration with German Development Cooperation (GIZ) and other private development partners.

It noted that the summit was in line with the change mantra of the present administration to vigorously pursue infrastructural development and address housing needs of Nigerians.

Among other key objectives, the summit would seek to proffer a “clear, sustainable, realistic and strategic blueprint for affordable housing delivery in Nigeria,’’ the statement said.

“It will provide opportunity for property developers and other service providers in the industry to showcase existing housing stock, building materials and new construction technologies.

“This is aimed at reducing costs and enhancing affordability of housing units in Nigeria.’’

The statement further stated that stakeholders, during the sessions, would deliberate on five key issues namely land, concessions and incentives, housing finance, off-taker strategy and general skills development and technology.

It noted that the summit would also deliberate on key constraints and challenges militating against the provision of affordable housing, in the bid to examine and proffer solutions to them.

“Policy makers, investors, professionals in the built industry, banking institutions and the Capital Market players will form part of discussants at the summit,’’ the statement said. (NAN)
