Former England and Manchester United captain, David Beckham on Tuesday expressed support to Prime Minister David Cameron’s campaign for Britain to remain in the European Union.
“We live in a vibrant and connected world where together as a people we are strong,” Beckham said in a statement issued via “Britain Stronger in Europe’’ campaign.
“For our children and their children, we should be facing the problems of the world together and not alone,’’ he added.
In his reaction, Cameron said he was delighted to get Beckham’s support.
The latest polls on the campaign put “Remain’’ marginally ahead of “Leave’’.
Boris Johnson, a fellow Conservative and long-term friend of Cameron, is expected to lead the “Leave’’ side of the six panellists for the debate.
Sadiq Khan, the Labour Mayor of London, will lead the “Remain’’ side.
