Keshi’s Burial Arrangements Revealed by NFF

2 Min Read

The Nigerian football Federation have finally revealed their plans for the burial of ex-Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi.

After a meeting with the gaffer’s family, it was agreed that the burial run between 27th and 29th of July.

According to the Sun, the burial activities will start in Abuja on the 27th, move to Benin on the 28th and rounded off on the 29th in Illah, his Delta State ancestral home, where he would finally lie.

This decision has ended an ongoing feud between Keshi’s kinsmen and his in- laws over where to bury him.

The former had in a letter said that he could be buried nowhere else apart from Illah, while the latter had wanted Keshi buried in Benin.

According to the Sun, his Kinsmen had then in a letter said, “We believe that an issue of this nature needs no further elaboration as it is customary in Nigeria that most persons, particularly high profile personalities are buried in their hometown. To do otherwise, may portend some consequences in future going by the Illah culture and tradition.”

They had insisted that this was due to Keshi’s conferment with the chieftancy title of Onwa na etiri Ora (The light that shines for all) by the Obi of Illah after his triumph at the 2013 AFCON in South Africa.

The respected coach died at the age of 54.
