2 Min Read

The Yaba College of Technology UN Entrepreneurial and Vocational Centre (UNEVOC) in Lagos on Monday called on
interested students of the College to apply for its 2016 Youth Skills Competition.

The YABATECH UNEVOC Coordinator, Dr Funmilayo Doherty, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the competition, scheduled for July 15, was to commemorate the 2016 World Skills Day.

Doherty said submission of application for the competition titled: “Face of Technical/Vocational Education and Training in YABATECH’’ had opened and
would close on June 30.

“Criteria for participation includes a wide range of action photos that capture moments of education and training in the college; the skill or project can be in
group or individual work.

“It could be, but is not limited to photos capturing your sessions/talents during project work, practical sessions and moments of learning inside and outside the studios, classrooms, workshops or laboratories.

“It could also be a picture of you and your friends taking part in a local community project or during entrepreneurial projects.

“We want to see examples of skills development in action.”

The UNEVOC coordinator said that the competition was open to all YABATECH students at all levels.

She added that the aim of the competition was to showcase and promote the unique and relevant technical and vocational skills acquired by students in the course of their training in YABATECH.

Doherty listed the benefits to include international showcasing of winners talent and skills by UNESCO-UNEVOC International centre in Bonn, Germany.

Other benefits, she said, included instant internship opportunity, networking with high networth individuals and meetings with recruitment companies and consultants.

The UNEVOC coordinator said winners would be notified via email, adding that shortlisted photos would be showcased at the exhibition during the UN
World Youth Skills Day.

She said students could submit their applications by visiting bit.ly/wysd2016 on the Internet or www.iuacademy.com.ng.
