Prof Mathew Sule, the chairman of the board, who disclosed this on Friday in Jos, said that the materials were to enhance the quality of education in the state.

He said part of the amount was spent on capacity building for 260 staff of the board in various subjects, including Early Childhood Care and Development, Education and Financial Management.

“This is the first time that large a large quantum of instructional materials of this magnitude is being distributed. These materials will play vital roles in enhancing effective teaching in the schools.

“The materials distributed include 8,350 educational charts, 5,000 scrabble boards and accessories, 30 desktop computers, 30 uninterrupted power supply (UPS) machines and printers, 2,500 school timetable and extra- curricular items.

“Others are: 20,000 jerseys, 5,040 school balls and 36,322 lesson notebooks.’’

Sule also said that Gov. Simon Lalong of Plateau had approved the counterpart funding of the Federal Government of Nigeria matching grant of N1billion.

He said the fund was for the renovation of dilapidated classrooms and construction of new ones.

Mr Stephen Jings, Chairman, Association for Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), urged SUBEB to ensure that the materials were monitored to reach the end users.

He commended the board for giving children in the rural areas of the state the privilege of having quality education.

In his response, Mr Ishaya Ciroma, the Chairman of Education Secretaries Forum, promised that his members would monitor the distribution of the materials.
