Students of the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus have taken laws into their hands to protest the poor supply of electricity which has been a plague at the institution.
The protest however deteriorated as the students destroyed cars, buildings and other properties in order to express their dissatisfaction at the adverse conditions they’re being subjected to.
The Student Union Government of the institution had earlier suspended lectures on June 6 with claims that lectures will remain on hold till the university’s management sorted the power supply challenges facing the institution.
A rally was held to the effect on Monday but was reported to have degenerated at night into violence leaving damaged properties in its wake.
News agency, Punch reported that protesting students students wreaked extensive damage to buildings in different parts of the campus as class windows were smashed, some security offices vandalised.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr. Gabriel Onah, about 12 vehicles were vandalised during the rampage.
