Economy: Senator urges Nigerians to be patient with Buhari

2 Min Read

The Senator representing Taraba Central, Mr Yusuf Yusuf, has urged Nigerians to exercise patience and cooperate with the Federal Government as it made effort to revamp the nation’s ailing economy.

Yusuf told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Monday that he was not unmindful of the challenges currently faced by Nigerians, but expressed optimism that the present administration would deliver on its mandate.

He said that the Federal Government inherited a difficult economy that would take some time to fix, and assured that with good implementation of the 2016 budget, the challenges would abate.

“Yes, the budget has just been passed but you see, it requires a lot of planning, studies and analysis.
“Recently, the executive arm of government started disbursing some funds, especially to the infrastructural area to increase employment and to reduce the restiveness of the youth in this country.

“Meanwhile, this administration inherited a very difficult economy, very difficult security matter and very poor infrastructure.

“We should understand where we are coming from, the difficult situation. So, it will not be like an automatic thing,’’ he said.

The lawmaker said that the resurgence of militancy in the Niger Delta had contributed greatly to the challenges faced by Nigerians.

“There is a rise in Niger Delta militancy, which is diverting the attention of government after it subdued the Boko Haram.

“No doubt, the economy is a difficult and quite challenging one. While Boko Haram has been subdued, there are still instances of insecurity; so, the internal security needs to be revamped.

“Biafra is also a serious matter because it is not a matter that we can push behind us or treat with levity.

“It is really serious and it will divert the attention of government if we do not take care,’’ he said. (NAN)
