Private schools in Plateau plan sports competition

2 Min Read

Proprietors of private schools in Plateau are organising a sports competition for their institutions as part of efforts to identify hidden talents, an official has said.

Chief Ezekiel Sabo, President, Plateau Chapter of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos on Sunday that a committee had been set up to organise the event.

“The competition will strictly be for private schools; we have so many talents in our schools and we want a platform through which they could explore these gifts,” Sabo said.

He described sports as “a very viable venture,’’ pointing out that youths needed such challenges and opportunities to test their competences and explore more opportunities for successes in life.

“The academic line is good and we are already taking the students and pupils through that.

“ We are also aware that many people make it in life outside academics; that is why we want more challenges and exposure for those under us,’’ he said.

He said that students would compete in track and field events as well as other games like soccer, basket ball, tennis, volley ball, cricket and base ball.

Sabo said that the various tournaments would involve more girls in the playing of soccer.

“Girls have made careers out of soccer; we never knew this before, but it is happening and we would not want our students to be left behind,” he said.
