The Kebbi State Government has called on stakeholders to reverse the challenges facing growth in the state’s education sector.

The Permanent Secretary, Kebbi State Ministry of Science and Technical Education, Dr Isah Sama, made the appeal at a one-day stakeholder’s forum in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.

Sama identified dearth of qualified teachers, lack of furniture and learning materials as well as absence of stable inspection, monitoring and evaluation of schools as some of the challenges.
However, he assured that “the present administration will reverse the trend”.
He said the education sector operational plan review meeting recommended measures to ensure progress and improvement of the education sector especially provision of conducive teaching and learning environment.

“Other measures included regular inspection and supervision of schools, introduction of home grown feeding programme in primary schools, annual school census, community mobilisation and participation in the activities of education”.

The Chairman of the Schools Based Management Committee, Alhaji Waziri Gwandu, later told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the state government would implement recommendations of the review meeting to revamp the education sector.

The data released by UNICEF indicated that 13,000 teachers were deployed to 1,737 primary schools across the state. (NAN)
