South Korea, on Friday, called for Africa’s support against North Korea’s nuclear programme, calling it “a serious security threat’’.

The South Korean President Park Geun-hye, made the call in a chat with African diplomats and students at African Union (AU) headquarters in Addis Ababa.

“I ask for your cooperation in urging North Korea to give up its nuclear programme,’’ Geun -hye said.

The president also promised to help Africa combat terrorism and to boost its trade, educational and cultural cooperation with South Korea.

Park’s visit was the first by a South Korean president to the African Union headquarters.

The president was also visiting the Ethiopian Government from where she was due to travel to Kenya and Uganda.
