Jose Mourinho’s move to Manchester United has been the worst-kept secret this season but it now seems inevitable after he agreed personal terms last night.
But the reason the deal is yet to be finalised is because Mourinho, amazingly, is still owned by Chelsea apparently.
Reports claim that image rights issues are slowing down negotiations because the Blues still own the trademark to his name.
The European Union’s Intellectual Property Office database states that “Jose Mourinho” is a trademark registered of Chelsea.
Furthermore, the Independent reports that Mourinho’s signature was also registered by the club but expired in January 2016, although the ownership of the manager’s name will not expire until March 31, 2025.
Mourinho also has a sponsorship deal with Jaguar but United’s kit sponsor is Chevrolet, and the board are keen for him to switch cars.
