With the federal government spending a whopping N165bn every month on salaries, President Buhari has mandated that a new payment system be put in place–the automated payment system.
This is to reduce the overall cost of governance. This means that all workers’ salaries and allowances will be automated.
Minister of finance, Kemi Adeosun is of the opinion that this will be a good move and would lead to better fiscal responsibility and transparency.
On the issue of capturing the biometric details of members of the military and other security agencies, Mrs. Adeosun assured everyone that the military had been asked to design a road map for securing their information. She also stated that their security dates will be adequately protected.
The Permanent Secretary, federal ministry of interior Mr. Bassey Akpanyung also spoke on the development and said that it was also a means of keeping tabs on where money was going to and to know which areas were understaffed and needed more bodies or overstaffed and needed less.
The Ministry of Finance’s Director of Special Projects, who is in charge of the continuous audit exercise, Mr. Mohammed Dikwa also added that the program would block any leakage in terms of payments made and that they have a plan as to how the implementation would work.
