The Code of Conduct Tribunal on Tuesday adjourned trial of former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs Godsday Orubebe, till May 31 for the defence to open its case.

Orubeb is facing a charge of false asset declaration filed against him by the Federal Government.

The prosecution counsel Mr Ejike Orji, who called only one witness, said he had closed his case against the defendant.

‘‘My lord, having reviewed our case, we felt there is no further cause to call for any other witness to this matter. To this end we humbly apply to close our case.’’

The lead Counsel to the defence Mr Selekowei Larry (SAN), told the Tribunal that they were taken by surprise with the development.

He, therefore, prayed for an adjournment to enable him prepare for the defence.

The Tribunal Chairman Mr Danladi Umar obliged the application and adjourned further hearing in the case to May 31 for the defence to open its case
