Harry Kane had sidefooted the hosts in front, despite appearing offside.
England keeper Joe Hart rushed out of his goal but failed to block Volkan Sen’s cross and Hakan Calhanoglu tapped in an equaliser for Turkey.
Kane sent a penalty wide off the post after a foul on Vardy, who lashed in a winner from close range after Turkey failed to clear a Gary Cahill header.
