How Nigerian Social Media Helped Me Trace My Abducted Child – Father Narrates

6 Min Read

A joyful father, Mr. Ekpedeme Robinson on Friday narrated his experience with Nigerian Social media especially with the help he got in locating his 18-month-old baby who was kidnapped by a nanny.

According to the father, the little boy was kidnapped from their home located in Satellite Town, Calabar, Cross River State, by his 18-year-old nanny, identified as Covenant Bassey, on May 13.

He added that the effective social media and the rousing help he got from Nigerians was his saving grace in locating his baby. He noted that the fleeing nanny was finally nabbed on May 16 at Eleme in Port-Harcourt.

Narrating this experience, Robinson said he had gone to pick his two other children from school but on getting back home couldn’t find both his baby and the nanny.

He noted that the case was promptly reported at the Airport Police Station along the IBB Way in Calabar, but with the help of his friends and church members, photos of the missing child and the nanny were posted on Facebook.

“We flooded the social media with information concerning the nanny and my child. A lady called from Eket on Saturday to tell us that they boarded the same vehicle from Calabar. She said she saw the information on facebook after she had alighted from the taxi.

“The lady had said that while in the taxi, the passengers were admiring the baby because of his very light complexion in contrast with the dark nanny. Nobody suspected that the nanny had stolen the boy because she claimed that the father was light skinned.

“We immediately proceeded to Eket. We went to the police in Eket and the search continued. While there, we got another call from a guy in Port Harcourt who said he had just seen the nanny and my little boy. He also said he saw the information on the social media and recognised the nanny and the boy.

“We asked him to keep staying close to her while we mobilised some of our church members and friends in Port Harcourt to immediately find their way towards the trailer park in Eleme and by the time they got there, the caller had grabbed the nanny.”

According to news agency, Punch, Robinson was noted to have lauded the efforts of the social media which he said could b of a great positive advantage especially as portrayed in the locatA joyful father, Mr. Ekpedeme Robinson on Friday narrated his experience with Nigerian Social media especially with the help he got in locating his 18-month-old baby who was kidnapped by a nanny.
