Granit Xhaka, the Swiss midfield powerhouse looks set to become Arsenal’s first new recruit ahead of the 2016/17 Premier league.
According to goal.com, the player has agreed personal terms with the club subject to a fee being agreed between Arsenal and Borussia Monchengladbach.
The player hopes the deal can be wrapped up before the Euros begin.
This will also be the preference of Arsenal who have endured a disappointing season despite finishing second on the log.
Borussia Monchengladbach are however stalling on the deal in the hopes of getting a replacement in before letting Xhaka go. They are also looking to price Xhaka at €30m Euros, a price which Arsenal can match but are currently mulling over.
Manager Arsene Wenger had spoken about the likelihood of signing three players but that seems short of what the team needs when you consider that Mikel Arteta, Tomas Rosicky and Mathieu Flamini are their way out and there are doubts over the future of Theo Walcott, Kieran Gibbs and Joel Campbell. Also it was confirmed that striker Danny Welbeck would be out well into the new season with an injury.
So it would seem Wenger has a whole lot more to do and signing a player of the quality of Xhaka would be a real statement of intent going into what promises to be a busy summer.
