David Cameron changes tune, says Nigeria Is Making Remarkable steps against Corruption

2 Min Read

The British Prime minister who has come in for severe criticism over his remarks about Nigeria and Afghanistan came out to say that both nations were fighting hard against corruption and were making remarkable progress.

Cameron was summoned before the House of Commons over the issue and he spoke in glowing terms about the two nations and admitted that he’d made many ‘unforced errors’.

“First of all I had better check the microphone is on before speaking…  tips on diplomacy are useful, given the last 24 hours I have made many unforced errors,” he said.

“The leaders of Nigeria and Afghanistan are battling hard against very corrupt systems and have made remarkable steps forward”

Cameron also responded to questions by Angus Robertson, Scottish national party leader who asked if the Prime minister had heard of anti-corruption activists complaining that the UK were seriously undermining their efforts to fight  corruption.

“Action is necessary by developed countries as well as developing countries and the steps we are taking to make sure that foreign companies that own UK property have to declare who the beneficial owner is will be one of the ways we make sure that plundered money from African countries can’t be hidden in London.” answered Cameron.
