NOUN Management Announces Free Education For Prison Inmates

1 Min Read

The Management of the National Open University, NOUN, has granted a 100 percent waiver to prison inmates who desire to acquire formal education or further their education across the country.

The latest development is contained in a statement signed by the Director, Media and Publicity of the institution, Ibrahim Sheme.

According to the statement, the latest development was out in place in line with keeping the institution’s mandate of making education accessible to the less privileged in the society.

The statement further quoted the official announcement of the grant by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdalla Adamu while he was receiving his counterparts from the Nigeria/Turkish Nile University, Prof. Huseyin Sert, in Abuja.

The grant/waiver which was formerly set at 50 percent would henceforth allow willing inmates easy access to quality education and also allow for inmates to take advantage of the development to better their lives in efforts to realising their dreams and improving the quality of their lives.

Adamu in the statement noted that “Having suffered abandonment by relatives, emotional and physical confinement, prison inmates will see such gesture from NOUN as a measure to reduce their burden.”
