New Political Group seeks registration as party, to effect five-year single term

2 Min Read

A new political group seeking registration, All Grassroots Alliance (AGA), says it will sponsor an executive bill advocating a five-year single term for political office holders if voted into power in 2019.

Mr. Yekini Salimanu, the National Publicity Secretary of the group, stated this on Sunday at its public presentation in Ibadan.
He said the four- year term, with opportunity for a second term, often promoted bad governance.

“It also encourages corruption, nepotism and inept leadership,” he said.

Salimanu said that AGA was determined to move the country forward by enunciating a nine-point agenda that would ensure the indivisibility of Nigeria.
” Included in the nine-point agenda are free and qualitative education, free health care services, agriculture and mining revolution as well as efficient rail and transport services,’’ he said.

He said that the party, which was determined to offer itself as an alternative in 2019, would also slash the salaries and allowances of political office holders at all levels.

Salimanu said that the party would ensure gender equality, pro-active economic policies while drawing up a new road-map for the country’s socio-economic and socio political renaissance.

Dr Olukayode Oshiariyo, the National Chairman of the group, described the political movement as a formidable alternative ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Oshiariyo said that the party as at present has presence in 31 states of the federation with eight governorship candidates, including that of Ondo State.

Also speaking, Mr Lucas Orubuloye, a national ex-officio of the group, said that AGA would not play the role of opposition to the ruling party.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event was attended by Mr Paul Agboola, National Vice-Chairman, South-West Zone, as well as executives and members of the political movement across the South West Zone. (NAN)
