FG to invest fresh $3.7bn into power sector

2 Min Read

The Federal Government last week approved the investment of $3.7 billion into the improvement of power transmission lines  that  will be able to wheel 20,000 megawatts of electricity.

This was disclosed by Vice President Namadi Sambo at a meeting with Nigeria-Canadian Association of Greater Toronto area, in Canada at the weekend.

He said this while speaking at an interactive session during which he explained ongoing efforts at improving infrastructure in the country, noting that “President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration is committed to ensuring adequate power supply, improvement in transportation, aviation, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) , agriculture, health care services, education and good governance.”

Sambo also pointed out the contributions of Nigerians in diaspora to national development and encouraged them to return home and take part in transforming the country.

He noted that it was in recognition of their contributions that a diaspora bond of N1 billion was set up.

Earlier, the president of the Nigeria-Canadian Association, Fabian Nwoha, had expressed the desire of the association to contribute positively to the development of the nation, noting that they had been discouraged by negative stories emanating from Nigeria.

However, he observed that with the new developments being witnessed in the country, they were confident in the ability of the government to deliver on promises.

Nwoha reminded government of its promise to provide a consular office in Toronto to ease diplomatic issues.

The association was also commended by the Nigerian Ambassador to Canada, Dr Ojo Maduekwe.
