Protesters Lock Down National Assembly

2 Min Read

Nigerians trooped out in their hundreds today under the aegis of Occupy NASS to lock down the Nigerian National Assembly in Abuja in expression of dissatisfaction towards the lawmakers.

The group of protesters under the careful watch of security agencies marched peacefully to the National Assembly complex on Tuesday although they were prevented access into the premises of the complex as the main gate was firmly locked by the security officials.

The relentless group however camped at the gate of the Assembly complex vowing to remain there for as long as possible.

According to one of the coordinators of the group’s protest, Rexton Eheke, the group demanded the removal of all the paddings added to the 2016 budget by the National Assembly.

The group also added that there was a need to put an end to the impunity going on in the Senate especially with its support fit the embattled senate president, Saraki instead of tending to the needs of the nation.

Further in its demand, the group requested that the 38 SUVs purchased by the Senators be returned adding that the Senate should publish its budget and be part of the Treasury Single Account, TSA initiative of the Buhari-led administration aimed at fighting corruption.
