Governor Fayemi Selects “SUBEB” Chairperson as Deputy

2 Min Read

Governor Kayode Fayemi has forwarded the name of the Chairperson of the state’s Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Modupe Adelabu, to the House of Assembly for confirmation as the new deputy governor.

A statement yesterday by Chief Press Secretary Yinka Oyebode said Fayemi, in a letter dated May 3rd, 2013 and addressed to the Speaker of the state’s House of Assembly, Dr. Adewale Omirin, requested the House to consider Adelabu for the position of deputy governor in a bid to fill the vacant position.

The former deputy governor lost the battle with cancer on April 6, 2013 at a Lagos hospital at the age of 52.
our readers way remember that Adelabu’s name had featured prominently in many permutations over the likely choice of the governor as new deputy.

Speculations had narrowed down the likely choice to Adelabu or the Provost of the College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti, Prof. Francesca Aladejana.

Adelabu was slated for deputy governor in the build-up to the governorship election in 2006 before the late Olayinka was eventually picked when Adelabu opted out for alleged personal reasons.

The deputy-governor designate is a Professor of Education from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile –Ife, Osun State.

She was Head of the Department of Education Administration and Planning of the institution before her appointment as Chairperson of Ekiti State SUBEB in July 2011.

She is also a princess from Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, which had produced the late Olayinka.
Adelabu was born on May 23, 1950 in Ado-Ekiti to Prince and Mrs. Samuel Adepoju Adejugbe.
