Nasarawa APC assures aspirants of level playing field in rerun polls

2 Min Read

The All Progressive Party (APC) in Nasarawa State has assured aspirants in the forth-coming rerun election for Nasarawa/Toto Federal Constituency of level playing field, as it would not allow imposition of candidates.

The State Chairman of the party, Mr Philip Tatari-Shokwe stated this when one of the aspirants, Alhaji Mohammad Jafar-Ibrahim visited the party’s secretariat on Wednesday in Lafia.

“APC is a party whose hallmark is justice and as such it will ensure transparency in its affairs, especially during the forthcoming primary election for the House of Representative vacant seat for the state,” he said.

He commended the aspirant and his campaign team for the visit, and assured that both Gov. Tanko Al-Makura and the party executives have no preferred candidate.

Tatari-Shokwe, who stressed the need for all aspirants to exhibit high sense of maturity during the election, said that politics should not be a `do or die affair’.

The APC chairman said that the party members would freely nominate and elect aspirants who would eventually become the party`s candidates for the bye election.

“We are promising you that, that is what will happen in Nasarawa/Toto House of Representative rerun election, and the party will continue to uphold true democratic tenets and principles in its nomination process.

“Our party is against consensus candidate and any idea of intimidating the people. There should be no intimidation and coercion. APC will continue to welcome individuals who will add value to our existence,’’ he said.

Speaking earlier, Jafar-Ibrahim said they were at the party’s office to seek for blessings and formally expressed his intention to contest the rerun election.

“My intension to contest for the seat is to continue with the good work started by the former legislator, late Baba Onwana, who died recently.

“I promise to work for the progress of the people, if given the mandate,’’ he said. (NAN)
