Third time’s the charm: 40 year old man commits suicide over inability to Marry, Had tried twice before

2 Min Read

A man, frustrated at his inability to marry even at the age of 40, has committed suicide. The man simply known as Femi, had allegedly tried to take his life twice before, he finally got his wish.

Femi’s body was discovered in an uncompleted building in Alhaji Aboki Street around the Abaranje area of Ikotun.

The incident occurred barely two months after he was evicted from his one room apartment on 27, Alhaji Aboki Street.

A resident, who gave his name as Okeseun Olatunde, disclosed that “Femi was evicted by his landlord in February, after he was discharged from hospital, following a failed suicide attempt.

“On one of the occasions he jumped into a well but was rescued. After the second failed suicide attempt, his landlord asked him to bring his relatives, but none showed up. He had said severally that he was related to late Fela Anikulapo Kuti.

“We also learned he owed the landlord house rent. The landlord had no choice than to evict him, with his property kept outside. He (Femi) took the property to the uncompleted building where he stayed until he was discovered dead last Friday. We suspect he committed suicide.”

It was gathered that Femi was a bricklayer who was down on his luck. He was also desperate to get married and felt he was rejected by women because he didn’t have enough money.

Madu, another resident, said: “He told some of us in March last year that every woman he approached for marriage complained about his financial status. At a point, he started keeping to himself.”
