Economy: Association advises Nigerians to save for rainy days

2 Min Read

Mr Francis Namo, the President, Wakama Youth Movement in Nasarawa state, has advised civil servants, youths and other Nigerians to imbibe the culture of saving for the rainy day.

Namo made the call on Friday while fielding questions from News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the activities of the association in Wakama, Akun Development Area of the state.

According to him, given the dwindling revenue in the country, every civil servant and other Nigerians must save from their salaries to enable them cater for themselves at old age.

“The importance of any association like this cannot be over-emphasised to the development of the society.

“It fosters unity and peace among its members and other people. It also mobilises its members to support government policies and programmes.

“We have been doing a lot in reducing youth restiveness. That is why recently we organised a football competition aimed at fostering unity and peace among the youths of the area.

“Apart from enabling youths to discover their hidden talents, it has also provided an avenue for people to interact, to exchange positive ideas for overall development of the state and the country at large,’’ he said.

Besides, Namo appealed to Nigerians to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of their ethnic, religious and political affiliation.

He said that no society can experience meaningful development in an atmosphere of rancour and confusion; hence the need for people to forget their differences and embrace peace.

He advised youths to respect constituted authorities, shun social vices and violence at all times in the interest of peace and socio-economic development of the country

The president assured members of the association that the body will continue to key in to people’s oriented programmes so as to better their standard of living
