Former Minister of Education, and Bring Back Our Girls campaigner, Oby Ezekwesili has denied saying that many UNILAG students engage in malpractice.
The Herald had run the headline after scrutinizing her remarks at a public discussion on corruption organized by the Department of Jurisprudence and International Law, entitled “Winning the War Against Corruption”.
As part of her remarks at the event, and in direct response to what Premium Times correspondent called a thunderous ovation to a co-panelist (Femi Aribisala’s) remarks which differed from her own opinion and shed light on what he believed to be APC’s hypocritical war on corruption, Ezekwesili said to the UNILAG students:
“So for example, I wasn’t surprised that some of you were clapping. The reason you were clapping is that you are a page in your own level of corruption.
“There are many whose exam malpractice is the basis upon which they have come to school. So when you are talking about the need to wage a war against corruption, they are completely disconnected from it. There is a complete dissonance from it.”
Mrs. Ezekwesili has come under fire for her remarks from sections of the social media.
Some reactions:
his woman should apologies for her comment that NIgeria student cheated their way into university, i thiank we can see the mentality of those who claim to represent us, why do you think applauding someone who gave a better point is a crime, why not counter his if you think he was wrong, as for Sagay, he is just a useless legal practitioner who prefer to serve a president without clue, i think legal practitioners have class, as for this man, he is just a plain-stupid person
Any fight against corruption that hasn’t indicted any APC member is not a fight against corruption. It’s witch-hunt.
There is no corruption worse than turning against students for clapping. It means they have nothing to discuss but to swoop on the opportunity students provided them. Nigeria is dead!
To all your questions,if you couldn t find them in his statement, then you are not know myopic but endemically insincere. Also, shame on you n Oby for calling all attendant students dullards.she should have been booed out of there.she is a minister seeking person.
PDP is corrupt, APC is shameless, clueless, and focus-less.
Imagine Sagay and Ezy insults to students for clapping.
Shameless!!!!
APC will fail the same way PDP failed, Ezekwesili is just looking for job in aso rock, while Sagay is a sycophant, their is nothing wrong student claping when the truth is said, instead of them to answer questions about buhari hypocritical fight against corruption they are angry that student clap, if it is possible for APC the will block freedom of speech just to do their dirty job unoppose. shame on APC.
Ezekwesili, you abandoned your dirty political gimmicks “bring back our girls campaign” which then we considered a noble course because your ignoble father has occupied your enemy’s seat. What corruption is more than that?. If Buhari is sincere his anti-graft war will start on you.
Before now you’ll never find me identifying with Aribisala but he raised very cogent issues here on the ongoing corruption war. Now you’ll expect the other participants (Ezekwesili & Sagay) on the roundtable to address the points in the statement thereof, only for them to face the audience and ridicule them for applauding Aribasala’s issues and questions. No they, at least Sagay, ought to have done better justice to the concerns.
If Aribisala was given two or three mins to round off, then Sagay and Ezegwesili would have become academic pupets now. Aribisala has already rubbished them though. The students know better and gave ovasion to who deserved it.
These Sagay /Ezekwesili noisemakers came to the school expecting the students who apparently have woken up from the Change deception to start chanting ‘Sai whatever’, But when it became clear that the students where not buying the Otapiapia concoction they were selling, they started accusing them of being cheats. Now between Sagay /Ezekwesili who apparently work for a known certificate forger and The law students, who are the cheats here ?
I never thought for a second that this Buhari government woman-Oby whose comments clearly shows her socalled (bringbackourgirls) rubbish is the baby of the Apes in APC, can be this empty-concerning a discourse on National Issues–Sad that such a woman is blessed with a very poor sense of history—How can she allege that some of the students gained admission into the universities via cheating—? Fine—–so madam Obj–aka—Oby should be kind enough to ask the various WAEC offices in GHANA ati Nigeria to produce the exam result of Buhari for us——Biko——————-If that singular apsect of Buharis life is not corrutpion, then biko tell us what it is–A President who could not produce his WAEC result for INEC–brother me, cannot fight corruption with his corrupt ideas—————-Aware the students clapped because they know Buhari is a certificate forger—–period!———-U cannot go about stealing budgets at night—-in the Senate and tell us u are fighting corruption—————As for Itsekiri man Sagay——–he is a National disgrace——Total—disrespect for the rule of law by Buhari ati his Gestapo in Efcc ati DSS is another form of corruption————Refusal to tolerate the views of the opposition as indicated in the outburst of Oby ati Sagay, are traits that indicate both of them are rogues–nothing but crooks——with no clear vision on how to fight corruption———————-Aribisala represent the voice of the masses———————and they have spoken—Buhari is a complete failure–period–!!¨¨Let him go after Amaechi—–Fashola ati Dambazua for us to see———————-PDP started the war against their opwn people–not service chief-s
OBY AKA MADAM OBASANJO–SHOW US THE WAEC CERTIFICATE OF BUHARI
mention one thing that he said that is not a fact. What is the different between APC and PDP members, Are they not Nigerians that you and I know are endemically corrupt. OBY allowing herself to be fooled to accept to lead a scam called BBOG and Sagay not seeing anything bad in institution of government disobeying court pronouncement tell us of the wickedness and how low our so called intellectual could stoop so low for selfish political gains-selling the future of their children.
I have lost a lot of respect for Mr. Sagay. Dr Femi made some valid points which the students recognized. Instead of Mr. Sagay clearly expounding on how the government is going to tackle corruption he starts rebuking everybody as if they are his house boys. These are the people spear heading the governments corruption policy drive. No wonder there has been a lot of noise and no movement.
