Exit of an Icon: Chinua Achebe’s burial date set for May 23

The burial date of the late renowned writer, Prof. Chinua Achebe has been set for May 23. 2013.

 

This was disclosed by the Anambra State Governor and the Chairman, South-East Governors Forum, Peter Obi  at the Government House Enugu after a meeting of the South -East Governors with the family of the late Achebe.

 

Obi, who didn’t disclose the details of the  outcome of the meeting, however, stated that  the governors  deliberated on security, burial of Achebe and the Enugu International Airport.

 

Also speaking with journalists, the first son of the late Achebe,  Ikechukwu,  described his father as a good man who wished Nigeria well.

 

He recalled that his father’s last wishes was a Nigeria that would be free of corruption as well as a Nigeria that would live up to the expectations of its citizens.

 

Ikechukwu expressed his appreciation to President Goodluck Jonathan for granting him an opportunity to meet with him and his support so far to the family.

 

He also expressed gratitude to the South -East Governors for their support and special indication that his late father,s burial was an important event.

 

The meeting was attended by Governors Peter Obi (Anambra); Martin Elechi ( Ebonyi);  Theodore Orji  (Abia) and Sullivan Chime (Enugu) while Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha was represented by his deputy, Mr. Eze Madumere.
