Top members of the Ekiti State Government have made themselves scarce following an alleged threat of arrest issued by the Department of State Security, DSS, officers.

The Secretary to the Ekiti State Government, SSG, along with some commissioners and members of the state executive council have since gone into hiding to avoid arrest by the DSS officers who have continuously laid siege in the state.

The SSG, Dr. Modupe Alade while speaking in Akure, Ondo State revealed that a list of the executive committee members to be arrested has been in circulation in the state.

She also added that strange phone calls have been plaguing her mobile phone since Tuesday, significant of all was a certain call from one Paul Okafor with the telephone number +447442364448 who specifically instructed her to make herself available at the DSS’s office in Abuja.

“Subsequent calls from other anonymous Nos said that in my own interest I should make myself available as there is no hiding place for me. This account for my addressing this Press Conference outside Ekiti State.

“This intimidating and overzealous act of the men of the DSS contradict Section 35 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended. One wonders what they are turning democracy to in Nigeria as amended”.

The SSG however added that the action of the DSS was specifically targeted at close allies of the State Governor.

She added; “we are yet to see a new constitution in Nigeria that makes speaking one’s mind on national issues, a crime”.
