Two men and a teenage boy were on Wednesday charged before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged theft of jewellery worth three million naira.
The accused – Suleiman Abdullahi, 65, Rilwan Bashiru, 25, and John Uzoma, 16 – are facing four-count charge of conspiracy, dishonestly receiving stolen properties, breaking an entry and stealing.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Roman Unuigbe, told the court that the accused committed the offences between Dec. 2015 and Feb. 2016 at 5th Avenue, ‘O’ Close, House 32, Festac Town, Lagos.
Unigbe said Uzoma, who worked as a housekeeper for one Mrs Nkechi Okerelu, broke into her room and stole 10 sets of jewellery worth N3 million.
“Bashiru conspired with Uzoma and sold the jewellery to Abdullahi,” he said.
Unigbe said the offences contravened Sections 285, 306, 326 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 prescribes three-year jail term for offenders.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr P.A Ojo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 each with two sureties in like sum.
Ojo adjourned the case to March 28 for mention. (NAN)
