The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, on Monday said the command arrested 73 armed robbery suspects between January and March 6.
Owoseni made the disclosure in Lagos while parading no fewer than 60 suspects before newsmen including members of Awawa secret cult.
He said that 84 suspected members of different cult groups were arrested within the same period.
He said that 31 arms and 92 cartridges were recovered from the suspects.
Owoseni said that two suspected armed robbers lost their lives during gun encounter with the police, while 47 stolen vehicles were recovered.
The commissioner said that 2,009 suspects were arrested in some black spots in the state, adding that 213 were screened out, while 1,134 were prosecuted within the period.
He said that 1,341 motorcycles were impounded for plying restricted roads and streets.
He commended the media for the support it gave the police to achieve the feat recorded particular the publicity it gave the police that aided
the release of the three secondary school students in Ikorodu.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 50 suspected Awawa secret cult members, with some of them having special identity marks on their faces were remanded after the parade. (NAN)
