In a swift reaction geared towards preventing unnecessary inter-ethnic tension in the state, the Ogun State Police Command has described as “baseless” the rumour being circulated of violence between the Yoruba and Hausa ethnic groups in the Ogere area of the state.
In a Saturday statement by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, the police further described the reports as “untrue” and should be disregarded.
“The attention of the Ogun State police command has been drawn to a rumour in circulation that there is an ethnic clash between Yoruba and Hausa in Ogere,Ogun State.
“The command wishes to debunk the rumour. Such news is baseless and not true,” the statement read.
While stating that the police were poised to forestall any case of break down of law and order in the state, Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said residents should go about their lawful businesses without fear of molestation.
