Bayelsa State Governor’s Sister Freed From Abductors Over Two Months After

2 Min Read

The sister of the Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, has been rescued after over two months in captivity of her abductors.

In a statement issued today by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, the 26-year-old Nancy Dickson was rescued on Sunday evening from her captors.

According to the statement, no ransom whatsoever was paid.

The statement explained further that: “some of the kidnappers took to their heels while others were apprehended following a tip off on their hideout.”

The statement also called for bravery and courage amongst the people of the state, urging them to shun the idea of succumbing to the demands of ransom by kidnappers.

The Governor assisted the state people that plans were already underway to amend the Bayelsa State Secret Cult, Kidnapping and other Related Offences Prohibition Bill 2012 to proscribe payment of ransom in the state.

The governor in the statement added that the bill when passed into law would immeasurably reduce and subsequently put a stop to kidnapping cases in the state.

He noted that his personal experience with the kidnap of his aged mother in 2009 should serve as a lesson to all Bayelsans to trust the security agencies in the state to secure their loved ones without ransom.

He continued that “a comprehensive security strategy would be launched soon to boost government’s policy of zero tolerance for crime and criminality.”

Advising kidnappers and others involved in the devilish act, he warned them to turn a new leaf and desist from such unwholesome activity as the law would not pardon anybody caught.
