Death Toll Hits 48 In Kaduna Villages Attack

2 Min Read

The number of people killed in last weekend’s attack on two villages in Attakar Chiefdom of Kaura Local Government Area in Kaduna State has risen to 48 from 28, with older women and children being the most of the victims.

This was disclosed by the National President of the Attakar Community Development Association (ACDA), Ishaya Kunden Samaila yesterday who also said that in addition to the 25 women, 13 children and 7 men killed, three corpses were discovered late on Thursday and property valued at N500m was destroyed.

He said, “As peace-loving people, we demand that the privileges granted to Fulanis on Attakar land be withdrawn immediately to forestall any future breach of peace.

“We also demand that the government must rehabilitate and resettle the internally-displaced persons so that their lives can return to normalcy.”

The association also demanded that the boundary problem between Plateau and Kaduna States be immediately addressed in order to reduce the insecurity risk suffered by Attakar people in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

“This is because the Attakars in Eten Chiefdom have never been treated as real indigenes,” they said.

Meanwhile, the Southern Kaduna Peoples’ Congress (SOKAPU) has lent its voice to appeals to the general public to come to the assistance of the 4000 internally displaced persons in the Attakar Chiefdom.

It will be recalled that last weekend, the two villages of Mafing and Yilang were attacked by Fulani herdsmen over the death of two cows suspected to have been poisoned, leading to the death of 19 persons and numerous others seriously injured.
