Morocco Lands World’s Largest Solar Power Plant

1 Min Read

The world’s largest solar power plant has been activated in the North African country of Morocco.

The plant, located in the city of Ouarzazate, is capable of powering one million homes by 2018 and reducing carbon emissions by 760,000 tons per year.

Called the Noor-Ouarzazate power complex, the plant uses concentrating solar power (CSP) which enables the storing of energy for later use at night and during cloudy days.

The project was jointly funded by the World Bank, the Climate Investment Fund’s Clean Technology Fund (CTF), the African Development (AfDB) and European financial institutions.
