Vacation: Nigerians Deserve To Know President Buhari’s Whereabouts – Fayose

2 Min Read

Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State has accused the Presidency of hoarding information about President Muhammadu Buhari’s whereabouts as the president embarked on a five-day vacation on Friday, February 5.

In a Sunday statement by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, the governor wondered how President Buhari who announced on Tuesday that he was visiting France and Britain suddenly embarked on a five-day vacation while still in the UK.

He stated that the presidency should tell Nigerians the truth about their President because the President was an open book that every Nigerian should be free to read.

He said: “Nigerians deserve to know where exactly their president is spending his vacation.

“We were told last Tuesday, that Mr President was travelling to France and from there to London to attend the Syria Donor Conference, and that he would return to Nigeria this weekend.

“All of a sudden, we were told that the President was embarking on a five-day vacation. Where and why? We were not told.

“Curiously, it was at this same period, last year that President Buhari, who was at that time the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, disappeared from public, with lies told about him granting interviews in London.

“It is therefore important that in future, the presidency should be more explicit in communicating with Nigerians on issues regarding the President because a nation’s president is an open book that can be read by anyone.”

However, he commended the President for avoiding a constitutional conflict by properly handing over to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and prayed for the President’s safe return to the country at the expiration of his leave on February 10.

In the same vein, the governor claimed to have uncovered a plot to upturn his victory at the 2014 gubernatorial election in Ekiti State using the Supreme Court because of his criticism of the present administration, stating that the move would fail.
