1 Min Read

Hundreds of Shiite youths on Thursday stormed Kano Central senatorial zone and spent almost 8 hours protesting the continuing detention of their leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

The youths, including young women wearing black attires with some dressed in more Western clothing, took to the streets of Kano from Gwauran Dutse, to Kofar Mazugal base at Masallacin Juma`a Na Fagge, Friday mosque protesting the killing and subsequent detention of their brothers and sisters in Zaria, Kaduna state.

The leader of the protesting Shi`ite youths, Malam Mansur Ukashatu, said they have decided to protest over the inability of the Federal Government to release their leader, whose location is unknown.

The protesting youths also walked down Zaria road, with the march concluding peacefully at the Dangi Junction roundabout.

Recall that personnel of the Nigerian Army in December 2015 clashed with members of the Shi’a group, Islamic Movement of Nigeria, leading to the death of scores of members of the group.

Also, dozens of members of the group were also rounded up by the Army and detained, although many of them, especially women and children, have been released.
