Insurgency: Police To Take Over Security In North East – Arase

2 Min Read

As the military continues to record gains in the war on Boko Haram insurgency in the North |East geo-political zone, the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, has disclosed that the police will be taking over the responsibility of maintaining peace and security in the areas already liberated from the insurgents.

He said this was geared towards restoring normalcy in the region and encouraging displaced persons to return home.

Arase made this known in Abuja on Thursday at a forum with stakeholders in restoring security in the North East.

According to him, the police officers to be deployed to maintain peace and security in the liberated areas will be provided with adequate logistical necessities to allay the fears of the residents.

He said: “I want to state that the unstable situation and wide range conflict created in the North-East has greatly denied citizens in the affected areas of the security which they constitutionally deserved to enjoy and it is for this reason that the Nigeria Police Force is evolving operational strategies that will lead to the restoration of police primacy and restoration of civil authority in the North-East.”

“Of course, I will not just post Police personnel to the North-East without first ensuring their safety and provision of adequate welfare. That is why we have already sent the Deputy Inspector-General of Police,  Operations to go beforehand and ensure adequate preparations towards the taking over of the place by the Police.”
