Obasanjo Blasts Governors; Says They Live Like Emperors

1 Min Read

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo barely a week ago wrote a damning open letter to the leadership of the National Assembly, accusing the hallowed chambers of greed, monumental corruption and aversion to due process.

Well, this time, the elder statesman has come for the governors of the 36 states of the federation, accusing them of living like emperors and making nonsense of the local government areas under their supervision.

Obasanjo made this known on Monday at the inaugural conference of Ibadan School of Government and Public Policy (ISGPP).

According to him, “these days, Nigeria  is a country where some governors have become sole administrators, acting like emperors. These governors have rendered public institutions irrelevant and useless”.

He queried: “Is there development work going on in the 774 constitutionally recognised local government councils, which have been merely appropriated as private estate of some governors. The governors have hijacked the resources of the local governments and this has crippled the development of the local government councils in the country.”
